Mafer and Robert’s Courthouse Wedding at the Wake County Justice Center

Mafer and Robert were married on August 21, 2026, during an intimate courthouse wedding at the Wake County Justice Center in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Their celebration was simple, heartfelt and filled with the kind of genuine moments I love most as a documentary wedding photographer. A courthouse wedding may be simple, but the moments surrounding it are every bit as meaningful. From portraits outside the Wake County Justice Center to hugs with family members and an impromptu hot dog celebration, your photographs can preserve the complete story of the day.

A Little Extra Time Before “I Do”

With thunderstorms moving toward Raleigh that afternoon, we decided to meet earlier than originally planned. The timing worked out beautifully. The clouds created a soft blanket of flattering light, giving us the perfect conditions for portraits outside the Justice Center before the ceremony.

I met Mafer and Robert for the first time that day, but our connection felt effortless. I immediately felt as though I had known them for much longer. While we waited for their turn to be married, we walked around the courthouse and created couples portraits that felt relaxed, natural and completely true to them. They both have the most charming smiles, and their happiness made photographing them incredibly easy.

Waiting for Their Turn

After their portraits, we headed upstairs to wait for the courtroom to open. That was when I met their family members, who were every bit as kind and genuine as Mafer and Robert. Everyone greeted one another with warm hugs, and the smiles simply could not be contained.

While we waited, we took a few more couples portraits of Mafer and Robert, along with some family group photographs. Even the family photos felt easy and joyful because everyone was so cooperative and simply happy to be together. There was no rush—just lots of laughter, hugs, and excitement as everyone waited for the moment they had come to celebrate.

Before long, it was Mafer and Robert’s turn to enter the courtroom.

Simple, Sincere, and Full of Love

Their wedding ceremony was simple, sincere and real. There was no elaborate production—only two people surrounded by those they loved, promising to share their lives with one another. In what seemed like no time at all, Mafer and Robert were officially married.

After the ceremony, the courtroom filled with congratulations, embraces and celebration. In the middle of it all, Mafer and her father shared a tender father-daughter hug that brought a tear to my own eye. It was a quiet, beautiful moment and exactly the kind of honest connection I hope to preserve through my photographs.

Celebrating the Newlyweds

We returned outside for a few more portraits of the newlyweds, this time accompanied by bubbles that their family had brought along. The bubbles added such a playful touch to the celebration and made a lovely ending to their courthouse wedding portraits.

Hot Dogs Before Dinner

But the day was not quite finished.

Just outside the Wake County Justice Center, the newlyweds and their family stopped for hot dogs from a street vendor. Everyone enjoyed the unexpected treat as an appetizer before the celebration dinner planned for later that evening. It was casual, fun, and perfectly suited to the relaxed spirit of the day.

My time with Mafer and Robert came to an end as everyone finished their hot dogs, although I truly could have stayed with them all day. Photographing their Raleigh courthouse wedding was an extraordinary experience, not because it was elaborate, but because it was so full of warmth, sincerity and love.

Mafer and Robert, thank you for welcoming me into your wedding day so openly. It was a joy to meet you, celebrate with your wonderful family and document the beginning of your marriage.
