A Historic Venue with Timeless Charm
Located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, the Merrimon-Wynne House is one of the most iconic and elegant wedding venues in North Carolina. Originally built in 1876, the estate has been meticulously restored, offering a romantic and refined backdrop for any celebration.
From the floor-to-ceiling windows in the Main House to the neutral-toned walls and ornate chandeliers, every room glows with soft, natural light—ideal for wedding day photography. The property also features a stunning Carriage House with arched wooden ceilings and marbled floors, perfect for indoor ceremonies and receptions.
Getting Ready in Natural Light
Vanessa began her day in the Bridal Suite, a peaceful and beautifully-lit space with tall windows that let in the soft glow of the overcast skies. Surrounded by her bridesmaids and her two sweet daughters, Vanessa enjoyed a quiet getting ready time filled with laughter, love, and a few happy tears. Her bridal portrait, taken on a vintage blue couch in front of a tall, rainy window, was a breathtaking moment of calm before the excitement began.
Meanwhile, David and his groomsmen relaxed in the Groom’s Room, a classic space overlooking the lawn. Poker chips clinked and glasses were raised as the guys played cards and shared stories before suiting up in jackets and ties. The room buzzed with anticipation, while little ones ran between both suites, filling the house with joy.
A Private Moment, Without Peeking
Before the ceremony, Vanessa and David chose to share a quiet, emotional moment together. Standing on opposite sides of a doorway, they held hands and exchanged a few words—never seeing each other, but clearly connected. It was a perfect pause in the middle of a busy day, filled with tenderness and anticipation.
Saying "I Do" Indoors at the Carriage House
With rain falling outside, the ceremony was moved to the pergola area of the Carriage House, an elegant indoor option that felt just as magical. The wooden altar, draped in magnolia leaves, greenery, and soft white florals, brought a natural, organic touch to the space.
As Vanessa walked down the brick aisle toward David, his face lit up with pure joy. The room was filled with emotional moments—happy tears, quiet smiles, and heartfelt vows. Their daughters watched nearby, wide-eyed, and wrapped in the moment.
Romantic Portraits and Celebration
After the ceremony, we took advantage of the covered front porch of the Main House for couples portraits. The soft rain only added to the romance, and the grand architecture of the Merrimon-Wynne House created a dreamy setting.
The reception was held back in the Carriage House, where one main long wooden table covered in candles created a cozy, glowing ambiance. Vanessa and David shared their first dance under the soaring wooden beams, and in a moment that melted everyone’s hearts, their daughters joined them on the dance floor.
From heartfelt toasts to non-stop dancing, the reception was a celebration in every sense of the word. Family and friends filled the space with joy and energy, proving that not even rain can dampen the spirit of true love.
A Nod to Tradition: Bouquet & Garter Toss
Vanessa and David chose to embrace a few classic traditions during their reception, including the always-entertaining bouquet and garter toss. With their friends cheering them on, Vanessa gathered all the single ladies to the center of the dance floor and launched her bouquet into the air—landing in the arms of a beaming guest. David followed suit with a fun, lighthearted garter toss, keeping the energy high and laughter flowing. These time-honored moments added a playful touch to the evening and brought even more excitement to the celebration.
A Rainy, Romantic Exit
As the night drew to a close, Vanessa and David made their exit through the grand front doors of the Main House, hand-in-hand beneath an umbrella. With raindrops falling softly around them, the moment felt like a scene from a movie—intimate, beautiful, and unforgettable.
