If you’re dreaming of a wedding surrounded by nature, rustic charm, and golden light, Chapel Hill Carriage House Farm and Gardens is the place to be. Tucked just outside Chapel Hill, North Carolina, this private venue offers a magical blend of lush gardens, serene ponds, and an open-air wooden barn that truly shines in the summer light. One September, we had the absolute joy of photographing Emily and Bill’s wedding at the Carriage House—and it’s one we’ll never forget.

Getting Ready: A Peaceful Morning in Chapel Hill

Emily began her wedding day at a nearby house, where she had her hair and makeup done surrounded by close friends and family. There was a quiet joy in the air—calm anticipation and so much love. Once she arrived at the venue, she slipped into her wedding dress and veil, the excitement starting to build.

Before heading to the ceremony, Emily shared a first look with her dad on the stunning grounds of the Chapel Hill Carriage House. It was a sweet and emotional moment—set against the backdrop of the gardens and summer green, it felt like something out of a storybook.

Ceremony in the Open-Air Barn

The ceremony took place underneath the venue’s open-air wooden barn, a structure that perfectly blends rustic elegance with natural light. On this particular afternoon, the sun poured through sheer white curtains, casting a warm, golden glow throughout the space. White twinkle lights hung from the rafters, adding to the romantic atmosphere.

As Emily walked down the aisle, Bill’s emotions were written all over his face. He saw his bride for the first time and they stood together framed perfectly between flowing curtains, with lush trees and soft light just outside the barn—a moment we were honored to capture.

A Rare and Tender Feet Washing Ceremony

One of the most memorable parts of Emily and Bill’s ceremony was a feet washing ceremony, something we’d never photographed before. Rooted in biblical tradition, the couple each washed the other’s feet as a symbol of humility, service, and mutual love. It was deeply moving—an intimate moment that beautifully reflected their values and the depth of their commitment.

This unity ritual was such a powerful reminder that a marriage isn’t just about the big moments—it’s about the daily choice to care for one another with grace and love.

Golden Hour Romance

At the end of the ceremony, Bill lifted Emily’s veil—shimmering with the late afternoon light streaming through the barn—to kiss his bride. It was pure magic.

While guests enjoyed a break before the reception, we explored the Carriage House grounds for portraits. The venue’s landscaped gardens, quiet ponds, and wooded areas gave us endless photo opportunities. Every corner of this property is designed for beauty—and it shows in every frame.

A First Dance to Remember

The reception took place right back in the open-air barn, now transformed with tables, florals, and glowing lights. But the highlight? Emily and Bill’s choreographed first dance—a nod to their shared love of dance and the perfect way to kick off the evening. They danced in the same spot they’d just said their vows, bathed in the same golden sunlight, and surrounded by all the people who love them most.

Later, the traditional parent dances brought more smiles and a few tears. And once the dance floor opened up, the energy stayed high all night long.

A Sparkling Exit Under the Stars

As the night came to a close, Emily and Bill walked hand-in-hand down a brick pathway lined with sparklers, surrounded by cheering guests. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
